Let’s Recap: Craving 1985 Series

It’s hard to believe I released the first book in this series two years ago in June 2021! When I first wrote When I Found You, I never expected this to turn into a series. But the secondary characters called to me, begging me to write their romance journeys. While the first book contains time travel from the present to 1985, the subsequent three books are all firmly set in 1985. The final book, Just What I Needed, releasing in September, will also be a time travel where the hero slips from 1985 to the present.

Each book has its own distinctive vibe. Some are a little more suspenseful than others and some include more 80s references. But the key element tying them all together is the relationships between the characters. I know it’s a little complicated, so let me give you a brief rundown of each book and how they fit together. Are you ready for a little trip to the 80s?

When I Found You. The one that started it all. We start with Kate atop the Empire State Building, lamenting her life and contemplating ending it all. When she gets caught in a time slip, she ends up in the same spot…but in 1985. Things get tricky when she searches for her Dad and ends up finding his boss, Arthur. Then falling for him.

Along the way, we meet Arthur’s sister Marcy, his best friend Rob, and his chauffeur, Cyril. Oh, and there’s a brief mention of Arthur and Rob’s mutual friend, Grant, a homicide detective. Are you keeping up so far?

Next, we dive into Can’t Fight This Feeling. This one features caustic, sexual tension-filled banter between Rob and Marcy. It features an epic ton of mutual pining and ‘who hurt you’ at the center of the story. Marcy’s traumatic past rears its ugly head, and Rob comes alongside her even though she’s desperate to keep her distance. This one includes mentions of physical and emotional abuse, just so you know.

But it’s in this book we meet the gruff, stoic homicide detective, Grant Richards, and his brother Claude, owner and proprietor of their favorite watering hole, The Black Penny.

She Gives Love a Bad Name picks up where we last saw Detective Richards in Can’t Fight This Feeling. The sparks fly when he comes to Rob’s aid to take care of a cat burglar who picked the wrong apartment. Grant cuts a deal with the sassy hellcat, and it comes full circle when she shows up on his doorstep with stab wounds, making her a murder witness in his current case.

Grant lives in an apartment above The Black Penny. His brother, Claude, plays a big part in this story, and it sets the stage for the bartender’s story.

In Owner of a Lonely Heart, Claude and Gwen come from very different worlds. Different backgrounds. But they’re both searching for happiness. A disabled Vietnam veteran, Claude keeps to himself, enjoying his simple, uncomplicated life as a bartender in Hell’s Kitchen. When Gwen walks into his bar during a snowstorm, wearing a Gucci gown covered in blood and sporting tear-smudged mascara, he jumps to her aid. But he has no idea what he’s gotten himself into until he discovers who her family is…and their ties to the mafia.

We catch glimpses of all the previous characters in the series in this book, but the brief mention of Cyril toward the end sets the stage for the final book. The loyal chauffeur finds himself in the same situation as Kate from When I Found You, slipping thirty-seven years into the future and landing in a decade he’s ill-equipped for.

It’s a good thing he stumbles into Jessica, who happens to be Kate and Arthur’s youngest daughter.

When I first got the idea for When I Found You, I had no idea how I was going to make the story work. That was twelve years ago. I wrote the first scene and set it aside. In early 2021, I found the missing pieces and wrote the story that hounded me for more than a decade. I’m glad I did.

Every character in this series holds a special place in my heart. I hope you fall in love with them like I did. You can read each book as a standalone, but they’re best enjoyed as a series, starting with When I Found You. I’m currently collaborating with Lilibeth (a fantastic artist), who is creating some fun, sexy art to go with each book. Be sure to check back here for updates and art reveals.

In September, I’ll be saying goodbye to this series. Just What I Needed releases on September 26. It’s available for pre-order now, and the rest of the series is available in print and ebook. There may possibly be a short story later, but I’m not planning on writing any other novels for this universe.

Oh, I forgot. Keep an eye out for specials and deals coming in August! *wink, wink*
