Spring Fling Blog Hop

Spring has finally come, and for many of us in the US, we’re ecstatic. This winter has been brutal and unwilling to retreat to make room for the glorious season of spring.  🙂

In honor of this season, I’d like to share one of my favorite poems with you.

[in Just-]

BY E. E. CUMMINGS

in Just-
spring          when the world is mud-
luscious the little
lame balloonman
whistles          far          and wee
and eddieandbill come
running from marbles and
piracies and it’s
spring
when the world is puddle-wonderful
the queer
old balloonman whistles
far          and             wee
and bettyandisbel come dancing
from hop-scotch and jump-rope and
it’s
spring
and
         the
                  goat-footed
balloonMan          whistles
far
and
wee

I absolutely love the imagery and the language he uses.  My favorite words are mud-luscious and puddle wonderful.  They make you think of standing barefoot in a mud puddle, letting the soft brown dirt squish between your toes.  So gross and yet so delightful.

Spring also brings my favorite flowers…Lilacs and Hyacinths.  It’s not just the clustered purple beauty of these flowers that draws me, it’s their overwhelming fragrance.  It makes my heart soar when I pass the garden and catch their sweet scent on the breeze. Here are some pictures from my own garden when I lived in Kentucky a few years ago.  I was THRILLED to actually have found a WHITE hyacinth.  🙂  Aren’t they gorgeous?

I’ve also included a few other pictures from my garden for you to enjoy. (Yes, these are my own personal photos.)

 Happy Spring everyone!

  1. Mud-luscious is a delightful word! It’s strange how squishing your toes in mud can feel so wonderful – great post. You have a beautiful garden, too. It’s great to connect with you through the blog hop!

  2. Love you pictures especially the ones with the bubbles… Thanks for being part of the hop.

  3. I actually like squishing my toes in the mud puddles left after a spring rain….so I guess im nuts too

  4. Great pics! I love the smell of Hyacinths! I used to buy them for my mom every mother’s day. 🙂
I hope you are enjoying your Spring so far.
